My little family and I were recently offered a chance to try La Maripili Churreria in Alabang Town Center for merienda.
This wasn’t my first time to visit this cute little space in Alabang, but its lovely owner, Elena Balaguer (pictured above), wanted to introduce me to some new dishes they just started serving together with some best sellers.
The kids (as you can see from the photo) were more than happy to be my co-taste testers for the day. But before getting into the wonderful selection of dishes they offer. I honestly think La Maripili has to be one of the prettiest restaurants they have down south. It’s clean white paint blends beautifully with its old wood and the light seeping through its windows are perfect for photos. You’d be hard pressed to take a bad picture in this place.
La Maripili initially started as a churreria and its deserving of the name. Its churros are the best I’ve tried in the country. They’ve got that perfect crunch with soft center and can be served with a thick, dark chocolate that isn’t to sweet and clings to the churros like a tight, but loving, embrace. You know when churros are good when they arrives at your table piping hot and actually stay delicious even after they’ve cooled.
But, alas, one cannot live on churros con chocolate alone so La Maripili decided to add a number of other delicious dishes to its menu. Here they are:
Chocolate Coated Churros: These come in an assortment of flavours; dark chocolate, white chocolate, strawberry, mango, and hazelnut. The dark chocolate one is lightly sprinkled with sea salt and olive oil. Delicious. (60php each)
La Españolita Toasts: grated tomato and olive oil with a choice of jamón serrano, chorizo ibérico, salchichón or fuel de vic. (250php)
Flavored Churros with Savory Fillings: jamon serrano or chorizo and honey. (only 60php each)
Breakfast a La Maripili crepe: corned beef sautéed with caramelised onions, baked beans and a fried egg on a bed of home made tomato sauce. (300php)
Much Mango Crepe: créme brulee, real mango chunks, whipped cream and mango syrup. (390php)
Flavored churros with sweet filling: these come in a variety of flavours; catalán cream, coconut cream, chocolate and chilli mousse, dulce de leche, vanilla cream. (60php each)
Are you sold yet? You’ll be even more enticed to visit when I tell you about their great lunch deal. Monday to Saturday from 11am to 2:30pm, La Maripili has a set mentu where you will get to choose a grilled sandwich, a side salad, and churros con chocolate all for just 290php.
Every sandwich and salad I tried from this lunch menu was super delicious and the side salad serving was a meal in itself! This one was the grilled chicken sandwich. My personal favorite!
