This turquoise piece of eye-candy was my great grandmother’s. She was a quarter Cherokee Indian, which might explain my high cheekbones and insatiable love for that veiny blue stone.

I’m serious. I gravitate to turquoise like it was crack.

I love how every time I wear this pendant I hear at least one “oooh” and two “ahhs” from random strangers. It makes me feel closer to my lola. Her soft skin, craft-loving hands, and warm hugs. I have every intention of passing it down to my own daughter in the future. Like my mother put it, “We may think we own things in this life, when actually we’re just the caretakers of our belongings for future generations to come.”
